Here’s some life drawings (or, the ones I think are viewable without suppressing a gag) I did during Fall term. It was fun but I feel like I can do without any more life drawing for a while; started to feel burnt out and bored towards the end of term. There’s some improvement but I’ve still got a looong way to go…
Used dry materials in class with various projects done specifically in one medium: charcoal, conte, and soft pastel
Last one’s in pen cause I was sick of charcoal by then. I liked her coat (she also brought in a stuffed camel)
1 hour compressed charcoal on newsprint:
last one’s got a wonky looking hip and thigh…yeah I know
experiments with new materials before work on longer projects on charcoal paper and newsprint:
2 day compressed charcoal project on white charcoal paper:

Hate the female one. I was at an odd angle and the foreshortening threw me off. I turned in the male one for grading.
2 day white and sanguine conte on honey (tan?) charcoal paper:

Meet Joe (on the right), he has no hair! He looks scary but he’s actually a really nice guy. I just wish he wouldn’t keep dozing off during a pose. The class wanted props that day and when Jim (the instructor) found a skull it was like Tempest meets Hamlet. Decided his pose was too static and turned in the female for grading.
2 day pastel on green charcoal paper:

Jim gave us a theoretically short slide presentation on color theory that kept going off topic. Then he gave us a handout on colors….in black and white xerox.
Final- figure(s) in an extreme environment with collage. Pastel and charcoal on illustration board. Newspaper and paper towel college attached with acrylic ground:

You can tell I was too lazy to do much work on a figure… rubbed my fingers raw on the painfully bumpy surface. I wanted to work more detail on the buildings but it was the day before it was due and stuff kept coming up over the weekend until I had to do this last minute :( Upped the contrast a bit in photoshop
